Action Rain
Association for Development Cooperation
Family planning is the key to a self-determined life. To pass this message on to all women and girls and to raise awareness among boys and men in this regard is at the heart of the Rain Action and the general goal of all our projects.
Aktion Regen, an association for development cooperation, was founded by the gynaecologist Dr. Maria Hengstberger in 1989 with the aim of reducing poverty and empowering women by giving people with little chance of education access to knowledge about family planning.
Africa’s population now has around 1.2 billion people and will more than double by 2050. This high population growth is due, among other things, to a lack of access to education on family planning and prevention, and will further exacerbate the poverty of local people.
Aktion Regen is active in 12 East and West African countries and trains health, social and youth multipliers, so-called Rain Workers, on the following topics:
- Sustainable family planning
- Sexual and reproductive health
- Mother-child health
- HIV/AIDS prevention
- Education on female genital mutilation (FC/FGM Female Cutting, Female Genital Mutilation)
