About us

IGO – Interest Group of Public Benefit Organisations is a Vienna based umbrella organisation of Austrian and international civil society organisations (CSOs) and NGOs. In 2018, IGO is looking back on 20 years of existence. Its main objectives are

  • The creation of a favorable legal and economic environment for its members.
  • The increased visibility and public recognition of third sector activities.
  • The observation of quality standards and good practises in the third sector and
  • The provision of information, training and networking services to the staff and the leadership of its members.

Members are the national branches of large international organizations like Amnesty International, Doctors without Borders (MSF), SOS Children Village or WWF, but also smaller ones of national or local importance. They are active in various fields; among them: human rights, development cooperation,  environmental protection, animal welfare, culture and youth.

This diversity is also reflected in the composition of our board. It comprises CEOs and  leaders of our member organizations. The board is understood as the organ which establishes common positions in order to represent the interests of our members in the best possible way. Together with the management team, the board defines the strategic guidelines for the organization.

Through BÜNDNIS FÜR GEMEINNÜTZIGKEIT, created in 2016, IGO reaches out to several thousand public benefit organisations and CSOs all over Austria with its members, staff, clients, partners, volunteers and followers.

At IGO, Romy Grasgruber-Kerl is responsible for civil dialogue and participation. She is currently i/c of a project in which – in cooperation with the Ministry of Sports and Public Services and the Danube University Krems – transparency and participation in legislation are promoted.

Already in her studies of international development, she dealt with the question of how civil society engagement can best be supported by the public sector. She has been strengthening the IGO team since May 2012. Here she has among others coordinated the Civil Society Index – Rapid Assessment (CSI-RA) project for Austria in cooperation with the NPO Competence Center of the University of Economics in Vienna and CIVICUS.

Claudia Herzog

Member support and event organization

Already while studying political science and journalism, organizational skills and the ability to communicate have shaped her professional career. As project manager and then in the key account, Claudia Herzog worked in several call centers. From 2005 she was able to deepen her experience in fundraising at SocialCall as a supervisor and project manager. This insight into the world of charitable organizations has strengthened her desire to use her professional skills and knowledge in the service of a good cause.
